!April 29th – May 1st 2019 – Back to Routine, And Thanks for Visiting on Open Da

Gee I, it’s fun to jump back on the Routine train. After days of holidays and vacation, new landscapes and different schedules, what a pleasure to return to our field, brimming with growth. During vacation we toured the country and witnessed the blessing of the wet rain in realms other than the agricultural perspective: the northern rivers are flowing, the south is abloom, and dry springs have awakened from their slumber, gushing with excitement.

As always in this Mid-Eastern region we call home, seasons change abruptly, and the summery spring has now landed full force – the temperatures are rising, the air is drying up in the spring heatwaves and the body is beginning to come to grips with the fact that this is Reality for the next few months.

חוזרים לשגרה – ותודה שבאתם לבקר אותנו ביום הפתוח!

כיף לחזור לשגרה, אחרי ימים של חג וחופשה, נופים אחרים וסדר יום שונה, אנחנו ממש שמחים לחזור לשדה ולצמיחה הרבה בו. החופשה אפשרה לנו לטייל ברחבי הארץ ולהרגיש את ברכת החורף הגשום שעבר עלינו גם מעבר להיבט החקלאי – נחלי הצפון השוצפים, הפריחה הנדירה בדרום, מעיינות ששבו לנבוע בעליזות. הלב מתרחב.
כמו תמיד, במזרח התיכון שהוא ביתנו, העונות התחלפו ברגע – והאביב הקייצי נוחת עלינו במלוא עוזו – מעלות החום מטפסות מעלה, האויר מתייבש לשרב אביבי, והגוף מתחיל להתרגל עובדה שזו תהיה המציאות היומיומית שלו בחודשים הקרובים…

April 15th-17th 2019 – There is no time like Spring

There are years when the arrival of springtime is not a cause for celebration. When it follows a dry winter and we realize that this is it – the rainy season is over – we welcome spring with apprehension. Sadly, I’ve faced this haunting experience more than once in my life as a farmer: disappointment with the lack of precipitation in the previous winter and an acceptance of the spring season with a hopeful-but-heavy-heart.

But this year we’re greeting spring with sheer joy. All winter long we smiled and rejoiced with each additional dose of timely rain – in just the right measure and intervals – and alongside the clumps of earth in the field, we enjoyed a satiating and incredible winter. Thus, by springtime we may have even had enough of it. We’re fully ready for the dry season – body, heart and soul. Yes, we can gratefully bid winter farewell, and mean it when we say, Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day…

15-17 באפריל 2019 – לֵךְ לְשָׁלוֹם גֶּשֶׁם, וּבֹא בְשָׁלוֹם טַל

יש שנים בהן תיקון הטל (תפילת הטל) נאמר מתוך לב חצוי. כאשר החורף חולף ללא גשמים רבים ומגיע חג הפסח, אנחנו מבינים שהחורף עבר ואיתו תמה עונת הגשמים והגיע שעתו של הטל ללחלח את הקרקע, ואנו מקבלים את פניו בהשלמה אך גם בחשש, ומקוים לטוב. לצערי, זאת החוויה היותר המוכרת לי משנותי כחקלאית – אכזבה ממשקעי החורף שנגמר, וקבלת פני האביב בתקוה אך גם בלב קצת כבד.
השנה השמחה גדולה. במשך החורף עלצנו וחייכנו עם כל מנת מטר נוספת שהגיעה בעיתה, בכמות טובה אך לא מוגזמת, במרווח נאה וטוב מהגשם הקודם, ונהנינו יחד עם האדמה מחורף מרווה, ברוך ונהדר. וכשהגיע האביב, אפילו קצת הספיק לנו, ואנחנו לגמרי מוכנים לעונה היבשה. השנה, בלב קליל ועולץ, נוכל בשמחה להיפרד מהגשם ולקבל את פניו של הטל: לך לשלום, גשם, ובוא בשלום, טל.
