October 30th – November 1st – 2023

“Hope” is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –

And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –
And sore must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –

I’ve heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet – never – in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of me.

EMILY DICKINSON

In these days of east wind and heat, of storms and internal aridity, we too, with this featherd hope, pray for the renewal of the rain, for recovery from the injuries and distress, to grow and thrive again.

I wish.

October 23-25 2023

Just over two weeks have passed since October 7th.

In a certain sense, it feels as if time has stood still since that terrible day, the world has turned asunder, and things cannot continue at their normal rhythm and flow. And yet, in the field, the days trickle by one after the other, showers scatter from the heavens, autumn winds blow, the summer vegetables complete their tasks and gradually give way to the autumn and winter vegetables. The vegetables in the boxes have been joined by cool-weather greens – tatsoi and arugula, and the autumn roots of carrot, beetroot, radish, turnip, and daikon. Nature’s cycle of life continues, despite the actions of humans, while growth is steady and ceaseless.

We have no words in these difficult days. We send you love and vegetables, in the hope that they will boost resilience and rejuvenation for us all.

Chag Sameach – and an invitation – come visit us on our Open Day next week!

At the height of the “Tishrei” Holidays – New year’s behind us, Sukkot & Simchat Torah lie ahead

In this very season 20 years ago, we took our first steps in our first plot of earth in Kfar Bin Nun. The field was organic, cultivated for over a decade by the late Chaim Pocher and his wife Liora (may she be blessed with long life), who both pioneered organic farming in Israel. In the years before we arrived, the field had lay fallow due to Chaim’s ill health. Fierce two-meter-high thorns and weeds covered the plot. That gladdened our hearts, for this was a clear sign of a fertile, happy plot which could also grow crops.

September 4-6, 2023 – The Popcorn Dance!

While the start of the schoolyear is a very special time, it can sometimes be scary and hard as well – entering a new framework, facing unfamiliar academic challenges, trying to find your place in a group of kids you don’t (yet) know…..This takes time,   trust, and the knowledge that you need lots of patience and hope for the “new” to  become familiar and wonderful.

This week’s Newsletter is devoted to that hard, shrunken corn that you received in your box (or will receive in the coming weeks), the popcorn that proves that if you give even the hardest, most rigid beginning a little warmth, patience and trust, it will bounce, burst forth and find its very own inner softness.
