The Weekly Newsletter of Chubeza Farm

THANK YOU!!

We’re delighted to announce the return of the long-awaited, incredibly special “A Year in the Garden” beautifully illustrated Hebrew-Gregorian agricultural calendar meshing local art with seasonal farming wisdom. This calendar is essentially a monthly guide to home gardening and Israel’s indigenous Nature, in step with the yearly rhythm of the garden, the field, and the forest.

A Year in the Garden’s calendar and weekly planner are filled with exquisitely illustrated information on growing vegetables, trees, and flowers based on the rhythm of the season and the environment. Plus, there’s helpful professional gardening tips, seasonal recipes, intricate illustrations of wild plants, listings for international “Green Days,” sun and moon phases, and more delightful surprises.

This calendar is the loving creation of Ilana Stein, a talented designer and illustrator who graduated from Bezalel’s Visual Communication Department. Ilana and her partner Davidi live in the Jerusalem Hills, raising their family close to nature and the seasons. A passionate home gardener and farmer, Ilana also guides foraging tours and teaches gardening and sustainability. Her ongoing encounter with nature throughout the year enables her to closely and lovingly observe its abundance—sharing that beauty in this calendar, now in its 11th edition. In A Year in the Garden, Ilana weaves together her passions for foraging, cooking, farming, gardening, and illustration.

The 2025 A Year in the Garden Calendar theme: Medicinal Plants. The calendar is chockfull of fascinating details on how and where to grow these valuable plants, what to pay attention to, how to prepare simple homemade remedies, and how to transform the healing magic of nature into everyday life.

Now is the perfect time to return to the garden—to plant, sow, observe, and rediscover the Nature’s healing powers that surround us… sometimes right on our windowsill!

May this calendar serve as a loving reminder of the wonder of growth, renewal, and the possibility for healing.

In addition to the A Year in the Garden calendar and its array of intricately illustrated products, Ilana and Davidi also maintain “Blogina,” a seasonal blog inspired by the A Year in the Garden calendar. Each month they share insights into what’s happening in the garden, field, and forest, offering great tips and ideas for foraging, cooking, and gardening.

For example, here's the opening for July: “The days are hot, and we're savoring the sweet summer fruit. Yet, towards the end of the month, the daylight hours begin to shorten. In the fields, we continue supporting the vines, fertilizing, and watering fruit plants, collecting seeds from “finished” plants, and supporting heavy-laden fruit trees. In the greenhouse, we’re preparing winter vegetable seedlings with long germination periods—cabbage, parsley, dill, cauliflower, onions, and artichokes. In the field, fennel and hyssop are in full bloom, as the forest overflows with fruits: buckthorn, grapes, sabras, and abundantly ripe figs. Garden trees lap up the deep, beneficial watering.

You’re invited to peek into Ilana and Davidi’s magical “Blogina” - but we warn you, it’s addictively charming!

Each A Year in the Garden product is printed via environmentally friendly processes, on eco paper, with soy-based ink, zero-waste packaging, and most important—abounding with love and care for Nature and the Land.
