May 29-31 2023 – MAGICAL CLOVER HARVEST TIME

In perfect step with the Harvest Festival, Chubeza also harvested our very special grain in the field – the clover, which carpeted the earth in green throughout the winter season, fertilized the ground and protected it from erosion, while its roots aerated the soil as well.

Here is a reminder of how the field looked about a month ago, and here is a link to the previous newsletter where I wrote about our winter clover crop and the part it plays in enriching the soil:

Now the clover has dried up and turned yellow. The harvester deftly cut the dry stems and then packed the hay into beautiful, very impressive bales of straw. They will be used as nutritious food for Gabi’s flock of sheep.

The visible part of the plant is what was harvested for the sheep. Yet beneath the clods of earth, the clover left us a hefty deposit of valuable nitrogen available for the future plants to come. This is how our field looks after the clover harvest, with fragments of the stalks remaining:

The harvested field will be cultivated and plowed and the brown beds aerated, upon which to build   oxygen-filled, rich and viable soil to welcome our summer crops to come.

So, slightly late but still within the harvest season, we wish you a happy Harvest Festival, bountiful yields, joyful crops and a wonderful summer!

From the entire Chubeza Family
