The Weekly Newsletter of Chubeza Farm

October 7, 2026

THANK YOU!!

Happy news! The blueberry and raspberry season has begun at the "Chelkat HaSadeh" Farm, owned by Tamir Deutsch in Tekoa. From next week, you can joyfully add blueberries and raspberries to your Chubeza vegetable box!

Quantities are limited, and Tamir’s blueberry season is short, but never fear! Raspberries are expected to be available in around two weeks. And this year, Tamir is also starting to harvest blackberries! Coming soon…

Once Tamir's supply decreases, it’s time to offer you delicious fresh blueberries from the Kaima Farm in Beit Zayit!

Add these extraordinary, delicious berries to your order today, via the Chubeza ordering system.

From the charred forest clearing,
burned like scars,
on the roadside
descending from Jerusalem,
black sorrow follows me.

I know,
I must stop the car,
climb one of the hills,
and, with the moon's encouragement,
look closely.

Green buds,
determined and radiant,
celebrate the future.

Last week, a vast wildfire broke out in our area, nearly reaching our doorstep. From the morning, we could already smell smoke and fire. As the hours passed, the air became increasingly heavy with the stench of smoke, as it thickened with ash. We rushed to complete our tasks and send out deliveries on time, but one Chubeza deliveryman was unable to reach us, forcing vegetable deliveries along his route to be delayed until Friday morning.

For over 30 hours, fire raged across the eastern region, from Beit Shemesh and the villages of Eshtaol and Mesilat Zion, all the way to Nof Shalom and the Trappist Monastery in Latrun. The sharav heatwave had created dangerously combustible wildfire conditions — high temperatures, dry air, parched vegetation, and strong winds fueling the flames to lick rapidly through wooded areas. This incredibly fierce wind carried embers hundreds of meters from the site of the first blaze, igniting wildfires at a frightening pace.

The fire reached the nearby Seventh Brigade Junction where the Armored Corps Memorial is located. There was concern it might spread toward Kfar Bin Nun, Chubeza’s home, but instead, the winds pushed the flames northward to the wide-open spaces in beautiful Park Canada. Thick smoke and ash reached our farm, covering vehicles and plants in the field (you might still see traces of it in the coming weeks), but thankfully, no real flames arrived. We were incredibly fortunate and are deeply grateful.

This video vividly captures the scene. The area north of Chubeza is completely scorched, while beyond the hill in the Ayalon Valley near us, the fields remain green.

The aftermath of a wildfire is heartbreaking. Leaving the immediate surroundings of Kfar Bin Nun and heading toward Latrun Junction, Park Canada, and the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway, the landscapes are scorched, blackened earth. Road signs are charred, with vineyards and groves all colored in drab shades of black, gray, and white — a heartbreaking, alarming sight. It takes a moment to absorb the devastation, and let it sink deep into your heart. Yet, we’re making the effort to remember that renewal and life follow a fire’s destruction, already picturing the green sprouts that will rise and flourish in the forests and open fields. We cling to our faith in nature’s resilience.

We gratefully thank everyone who checked up on us, offered hospitality, assistance, or simply a kind word.

Wishing you all a peaceful week, as we continue to hope, pray, and look forward to the end of the war and the safe return of all our loved ones!
